David Whitfield Ganey, 64, helped students who faced education barriers

David Whitfield Ganey, of Wilmington died, Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 64.

Born Aug. 18, 1950, in Brunswick County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Francis W. Ganey and Helen Lucille Mintz Ganey and brother, William F. Ganey.

David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Bonnie Joyce Eakins Ganey; his son, Adam David Ganey; one brother, Sammy Carter Ganey; and his beloved Jack Russell, Jill.

David was in the education field for over 30 years and was always dedicated to helping students who faced barriers to their education. He was an avid gardener and definitely had a “green thumb.” He fought a brave battle with pancreatic cancer but he is now in a better place with Jesus his Savior.

The family would like to thank his primary care doctor, Dr. William Jones, who, with his compassion and wonderful care, never gave up on David.

The family will be receiving family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 4508 Rondo Place Wilmington.
