Rachel Packer Watson died in Wilmington on May 12, 2015, at the age of 83.
Born on Aug. 23, 1931, in Cumberland County to Curley Neal Packer (deceased) and Florence (Willoughby) Packer (deceased). Siblings preceding her in death were Emma Rae Lockamy, Douglas Earl Packer, Willie Curley Packer (Bill) and Charlie Hurbert Packer. Living siblings are Mildred Ethel Navarro (Lufkin, Texas) and Elsie Dean Smiley (Wilmington).
Rachel lived in New Hanover and Pender Counties and worked as a cook at several local restaurants.
She was married to Talmadge Memory Watson Jr. (deceased). Their children are Roger N. Raynor (Martha), Alice W. Matthews (Larry), Talmadge “Tim” M. Watson III (Susie), George P. Watson (Debbie) and Thomas M. Watson (Donna), all of Wilmington. She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren, Mary Ann (Raynor) Taylor, Frank Raynor, Thomas (Jeff) Matthews, Robert (Jason) Matthews, Jonathan Matthews, James Matthews, Hidie Watson, Thomas (Mitchell) Watson Jr., Travis (Calab) Watson, Alysha Watson and Kelsey Carter. In addition she had 10 great-grandchildren who brought warm thoughts and big smiles.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Coble-Ward Smith, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. Cameron McGill.
