Second-degree murder suspect in fatal hit-and-run to appear in court

A Wilmington woman awaiting trial on a second-degree murder charge is scheduled appear in New Hanover County Superior Court for an administrative hearing on Monday.

Susan Diana Tumidaj, 39, was indicted Feb. 2 on charges of second-degree murder, felony death by vehicle and felony hit-and-run with serious injury or death in connection with a December 2014 hit-and-run, according to court records.

Tumidaj is charged in connection with the death of 59-year-old Albert Matthew Cox, who died from injuries sustained in a wreck reported at the intersection of North Third and Market streets in downtown Wilmington on Dec. 30, 2014, according to a spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police Department.

She reportedly struck a moped traveling north on Market Street and fled the scene. Cox, the moped driver, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated, but died from his injuries on Jan. 6.

Tumidaj also faces two counts of driving while impaired and six other traffic violations in New Hanover County District Court.

She remains in custody at the New Hanover County jail under a $200,000 secured bond.

Man indicted on first-degree murder in shooting at Sixth and Nixon streets in court

Raheem Akbar Shabazz Floyd, 27, was indicted on March 2, charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to New Hanover County Superior Court records. He will appear in court Monday for an administrative session.

Floyd is charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Sha’Quan Malique Boston near the intersection of Sixth and Nixon streets in Wilmington on Dec. 16, 2014.

In December, Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous announced that U.S. Marshals and Pender County sheriff’s deputies arrested Floyd in Hampstead. He was taken to the New Hanover County jail, where he remains without bond.

Man indicted on attempted murder charge in February robbery at hotel to appear in court

Sharod Jamar Bryant, 24, was indicted April 13 on charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury, second-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to court records. He is scheduled for an administrative hearing Monday.

Bryant is charged in connection with an armed robbery and shooting that injured a man at the Red Roof Inn, 5107 Market St., on Feb. 23. The victim was reportedly shot when Bryant allegedly tried to rob the man’s wife at the hotel.

Bryant is in custody at the New Hanover County jail under a $2 million secured bond.
