One man died in a house fire early Saturday morning in the Castle Hayne area.

Fire and EMS units responded to the 100 block of Mishoe Road just before 5 a.m., according to New Hanover County Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Marshal Ray Griswold.

When units arrived, firefighters found a man in the kitchen. He was taken outside the home where EMS crews worked to save the man, but life-saving efforts were not successful, Griswold said.

The fire was extinguished within about 15 minutes. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Ocean Isle Beach home deemed total loss from afternoon fire

Brunswick County fire marshals are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed an Ocean Isle Beach home on Sunday

According Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner, units responded to 456 E. Fourth St. at about 2:38 p.m. Sunday. When units arrived, the home was fully engulfed with flames. Surrounding homes were also damaged by the fire.

“There was still wind and rain going on from the storm,” Garner said. “Because of the weather, [fire marshals] couldn’t investigate.”

The home has been considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.
