Crews with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will intermittently close lanes on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge beginning Tuesday night.
The lane closures, scheduled for 9 p.m. Tuesday through 5 a.m. Thursday, will take place in order for crews to repair the metal deck on the bascule span of the bridge, according to a notice from the NCDOT.
“Portions of the grid deck occasionally break from wear and fatigue, while some of the welds can break from expansion and contraction caused by changes in weather,” the notice states. “NCDOT crews will repair the damaged areas and inspect the remainder of the deck for metal fatigue and minor cracks and make repairs as needed.
Although there will not be any detours, drivers are still urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are also advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
