Wilmington Christian golf team captures third straight state title

The Wilmington Christian boys golf team secured its third straight North Carolina Christian School Association championship as the Patriots cruised to a 48 stroke victory this week at The Neuse Golf Club in Clayton.

Blake Taylor captured individual medalist honors with a one-under-par 71, while teammates Jake Booth and Joey Funderburg finished second on the leader board after shooting a pair of 73s.
Sarah Funderburg, the only female player in the field, took fourth with a 76 to earn all-state honors. Grant Brongo (78) placed fifth and Sam Stamey played bogey golf.
In April, Wilmington Christian out dueled its counterparts from across New Hanover County to clinch their third consecutive Wilmington High School Invitational at the city’s municipal golf course. The Patriots held off the top Mideastern Conference team (Laney) by seven strokes.
