A 17-year-old girl reported she was assaulted by another student near Laney High School’s campus on Tuesday afternoon.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer, the girl reported she was attacked by another student while walking near Laney’s campus. The attacker reportedly demanded money, threw the victim to the ground, burned her and pointed a gun at her head. Detectives cannot confirm in a gun was on Laney’s campus, Brewer said.

New Hanover County Schools Spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum declined to comment on the incident, citing student privacy laws, but said there was no gun on Laney’s campus.

No arrests have been made in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
