No one was injured in a house fire reported Tuesday morning on South Eighth Street near downtown Wilmington, but the home suffered “extensive damages,” according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
The fire, reported at a home at 713 S. Eighth Street at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, was under control by about 9:45 a.m., according to Battalion Chief David Hines.
“Occupants were home at the time of the fire and all got out safely,” Hines said. “The American Red Cross is on scene to assist the occupants. The home appears to have suffered extensive damages and the neighboring structure also sustained some external smoke damage.”
The fire has been ruled accidental and attributed to an electrical short in the home, Hines said. The fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
