Weekend report: Woman robbed at knifepoint; no one injured in downtown apartment fire

Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an armed robbery reported at a Wilmington apartment complex Sunday night.

According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay, a 59-year-old woman was robbed in the parking lot of The Quad Apartments, 742 N. MacMillan Ave., at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

The woman said she was exiting her car when a black man approached and took her purse at knifepoint, Lindsay said. The man reportedly ran from the parking lot in an unknown direction.

Kitchen fire reported Saturday at downtown apartment

No injuries were reported in a weekend kitchen fire at an apartment in downtown Wilmington.

Firefighters responded to 106 N. Water St. at 2:46 p.m. Saturday, according to Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Nelson. Crews arrived and extinguished the grease fire in the kitchen. The sprinkler system located in the apartment helped contain the fire to the kitchen, Nelson said.

One person, who was home at the time of the fire, was not injured, Nelson said. The damages were estimated at about $25,000.
