Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting in the Ogden area that was reported early Monday morning.
Deputies responded to a home in the 400 block of Point View Court just before 3 a.m., according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.
Yancey Martin Edwards, 32, was shot and killed, while another man was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the arm. A woman, who was also at the home at the time of the shooting, was uninjured. Two dogs at the home were killed in the shooting.
Sheriff’s deputies initially responded to the home for a burglary call, Brewer said.
“According to the victims, two males entered the residence through the kitchen window with a rifle demanded money and drugs,” Brewer said.
Both men struggled with the intruders, who reportedly left the home through a kitchen window.
On Monday morning, Brewer said deputies were not currently searching for any suspects and considered the surrounding community to be safe, but on Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office released additional information seeking information on the burglary and shooting suspects.
The investigation is ongoing. No suspect information was immediately available.
