Candler resigns from Brunswick Realtors; Cumbie named interim CEO

Steve Candler, who has served as CEO Of the Brunswick County Association of Realtors (BCAR) since 2005, has announced his resignation.

Candler, whose resignation is effective May 28, has accepted a similar position in Bozeman, Montana, he said. Before being named CEO, Candler served as the group’s governmental affairs director.

“It has been a privilege to serve with such a dedicated group of professionals,” said Candler. “While I am saddened to be leaving so many good friends and colleagues, I am excited about the next chapter in my career.”

The BCAR executive committee has tapped Multiple Listing Service (MLS) Director Cynthia Cumbie as interim CEO.

“We are grateful for Steve Candler’s years of dedicated service and leadership to our association, and we wish him well in this new chapter of his life,” Bruce Williams, president of BCAR’S board of directors, said. “Cynthia Cumbie is a proven leader who has excelled as our MLS director, and we are confident that our association is in good hands during this period of transition.”

Cumbie has been with BCAR for 10 years and has earned a number of certifications, including Realtor Association Certified Executive (RCE), Professional Standards Administrator, Mediator, zipForms Certified Trainer and e-Pro. She is actively involved with the National Association of REALTORS (NAR), serving on NAR’s RCE Certification Advisory Board and teaching a study session on the MLS portion of the RCE exam.

“Our organization will miss Steve’s leadership and tireless commitment to our membership,” said Cumbie. “He leaves big shoes to fill, and I am excited about the opportunity to lead our association during this time. We will continue to work diligently to provide our members with the service and representation they deserve.”

Chartered in 1959 by the National Association of Realtors, BCAR represents the interests of its members in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. The association offers MLS and tax data interfaces featuring a comprehensive list of available properties for sale and general property information for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.
