Col. William H. “Doc” White, of Hampstead, died April 1, 2015, at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. He was 76.

Doc retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 27 years. During this time, he did two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also had four years of service at the U.S. Naval Academy. After retiring, he worked with Service Master in fire and water restoration. Doc was the commander of American Legion Post 167 in Hampstead and member of VFW Post 9983 in Holly Ridge, Marine Corps League and Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter. He was a 1961 graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Survivors include his son, William B. White and brothers, Clarence H. White Jr. and Richard Y. White.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Naval Academy Alumni Association.
