No charges will be filed in the fatal shooting of a Wilmington man at a barber shop last week, District Attorney Ben David announced on Monday.
Joshua Kahlan Simpson, 34, was shot and killed during a dispute in the 800 block of Castle Street at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
One person was taken into custody immediately after the shooting, but no arrests were made, Rawley said last week.
Detectives with the police department and prosecutors conducted interviews with witnesses and reviewed forensic and physical evidence at the scene before determining no charges would be filed, David said.
“After a full review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Joshua Simpson…the District Attorney’s office, in conjunction with the Wilmington Police Department, has determined that the shooting was justified by self-defense,” David said. “All of this information supports our joint decision that no charges will be filed in this case.”
