Beverly Parkerson Mitchell, of Ivanhoe, died accidentally on April 23, 2015, at the age of 46.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Mrs. Mitchell’s home.

Beverly, a native of Eastman, Georgia, was loved by her family and friends for her compassionate heart and a life spent bringing joy to others. She was an honor graduate of Dodge County High School and excelled in basketball, tennis and softball. She attended Mercer University on a basketball scholarship and worked extensively with alopecia and cancer patients who had lost their hair. Her efforts were featured on the Health TV Network in Orlando, Florida.

A breast cancer survivor, Beverly belonged to a cancer support group and was an inspiration to others in overcoming cancer. Her passion to help others led her to begin a ministry of collecting sea shells from North Carolina beaches and transforming them with scriptures to encourage others during trying times.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Don N. Parkerson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Mitchell, of Ivanhoe; son, Dare Mitchell; mother, Marilyn Gore Parkerson, of Greensboro, Georgia; brother, Dr. Don (Julie) Parkerson Jr., of Smyrna; two stepchildren, Ashley Mitchell and John Mitchell, of Wilmington; two step-grandchildren, Isaiah Smith and Alexander Jackson, of Wilmington; three uncles, Dr. Bartow D. (Amelia) Parkerson Jr., Rex (Carol) Parkerson and James R. (Elaine) Gore Sr.; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved German Shepherd, Atlas and her horse, Cisco.
