Sheriff: Heroin, cocaine seized in multi-agency investigation

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office seized heroin and cocaine this week after a multi-agency investigation in Wilmington.

Daquah Lamar Drakeford, 25, of Dock Street in Wilmington, was booked at the New Hanover County jail just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, according to jail records.

Drakeford was arrested after detectives executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of North Fourth Street, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer. Drug agents seized 180 bindles of heroin, 32 grams of cocaine and a handgun.

Drakeford was charged with charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, selling or delivering a controlled substance within a 1000 feet of a school, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, selling or delivering heroin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $50,000 secured bond and later released.

Detectives also arrested 28-year-old Deandre Lavon Wilder in connection with the case. Wilder, of South 15th Street in Wilmington, was charged with possession of heroin. He was booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $2,000 bond and later released.

The investigation of this case was conducted in partnership with the Wilmington Police Department and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Brewer said.
