Hampstead Garden Club has continued its support for students at Cape Fear Community College.

As it has done every year since 1997, the local organization recently contributed $1,000 towards a scholarship for one of the college’s landscape gardening students.

Jeffrey Marshall–who has applied the program’s teaching to his own landscaping and lawn care business–is this year’s scholarship recipient. A veteran and previous manufacturing industry worker, Marshall said he now enjoys the opportunity to own his own business.

The Hampstead Garden Club annually awards a scholarship to one exceptional student who has completed his or her first year of landscape gardening courses, obtained a GPA of 3.0 or higher and has a need for financial assistance.

“It gives us great pleasure to support students who are basically rearranging their lives for the better. Jeffrey is a great example of that,” Val Trofimoff, vice president of the club, said. “We have truly enjoyed our relationship with CFCC and are happy to support their landscape gardening students for many years.”

In a little less than a decade, the Hampstead Garden Club has provided more than $24,000 in scholarship money–garnered through various fundraisers–to the college.
