Geneva Blankenship LaFon died April 22, 2015, at home after an extended illness. She was 77.

She was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Pikeville, Kentucky. She moved to Wilmington in 1968. She had worked for years as a CCT and CNA at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was a self-taught artist and took classes later in life just for the enjoyment of learning. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always put her family first.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rush LaFon; her sons, Artie LaFon (wife Beth) and Darren LaFon (wife Tracy); a stepdaughter, Vickie Aflleje; grandchildren, Chuck Willetts, Morgan Phaneuf, Laurie Lonergan, Dallas LaFon, Sara Milligan and Austin LaFon; and nine great-grandchildren. Her parents, Arthur and Kate Blankenship and sister, Florence Childers, preceded her in death.

Memorial services to be announced.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, the Zimmer Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
