Leroy Stokley, 93, 37-year NC Dept. of Transportation employee, retired

imagesCAGE9BJ9Leroy Stokley, of Wilmington, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at his home. He was 93.

Leroy was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Wilmington, son of the late James William Stokley and Annie Bell Jones Stokley. His two wives, Katherine “Kay” Maxwell Stokley and Avor “Bert” Severt Stokley, five brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Mr. Stokley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 37 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Stokley Dobson and three sons, Pat Stokley, Ricky Stokley and Tim Stokley, all of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Penny Stokley, Cassidy Stokley, Walter Dobson and Connor Stokley; four great-grandsons, Taylor, Tristan, Billy and Noah; and one great-great-grandson.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leroy’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
