Leland PD, SBI arrest two people following monthslong investigation

Detectives with the Leland Police Department arrested two people last week on multiple drug charges.

Anthony Antwan Mallette, 36, and Lena Kinlaw, 29, were arrested after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Village Road in Leland at about 4 p.m. April 15, according to Leland Police Department Lt. Jeremy Humphries.

The arrest was the result of a monthslong investigation between the police department and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), which began in January, Humphries said. The Wilmington Police Department and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.

Mallette and Kinlaw are charged with selling and delivering heroin, morphine, cocaine and Percocet, according to arrest warrants. Detectives seized 30 bindles of heroin. Mallette and Kinlaw were charged with narcotics that were found at the time of the arrest and other drug charges that were the result of a previous investigation.

Mallette, of Russell Alley in Wilmington, has been charged with selling and delivering a schedule I controlled substance; three counts of selling and delivering a schedule II controlled substance; five counts of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; conspiracy to sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance; three counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance; and possession of cocaine. He was booked at the Brunswick County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.

Kinlaw, of S. Second Street in Wilmington, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance; two counts of selling and delivering a schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance; conspiracy to sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance and possession of cocaine. She was booked at the Brunswick County jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
