A Wilmington man has pleaded guilty to a June 2014 wreck that killed a 21-year-old man.
Mohammed Abdelrazzaq Daifallah, 27, pleaded guilty to felony death by motor vehicle in New Hanover County Superior Court on Wednesday, according to court records. Superior Court Judge Phyllis Gorham sentenced Daifallah to 38 to 58 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections.
Daifallah was charged with the death of 21-year-old Alexander Wakeen, who died Sept. 4, 2014, from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle wreck on June 2, 2014. The wreck occurred at the intersection of Oleander Drive and Greenville Loop Road.
Wakeen was a passenger in Daifallah’s vehicle, which ran off the road and rolled over several times. Three passengers, including Wakeen, were thrown from the vehicle and taken to the hospital for treatment. Wakeen later died from his injuries. A 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, who were also injured in the wreck, recovered from their injuries, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.
Daifallah was indicted Sept. 2, 2014, charged with driving while impaired, felony serious injury by vehicle and careless and reckless driving. According to court records, all other charges in the case were dismissed as part of Daifallah’s plea agreement.
