Art show to benefit Communities in Schools of Brunswick County is your source for free news and information in the Wilmington area.

Southport artist Jean French-Turner will host an art show 6-8 p.m. April 24 at the artShak, 822 N. Howe Street., Southport, with proceeds going to benefit Communities in Schools of Brunswick County (CIS).

The evening will be celebrated by a wine and cheese reception while admiring the oil landscape artwork created by French-Turner, according to a news release from CIS. All pieces displayed will be for sale by the artist and a portion of each sale will go to benefit students of Brunswick County through CIS programs.

Founded in 1995, it is Communities in Schools of Brunswick County’s mission to “surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.” The efforts of CIS making a difference in the lives of students and families is well-documented and can be found in 17 campuses where CIS operates in Brunswick County communities. In the 2013-2014 school year, the organization continued their mission resulting in more than 3,100 students receiving life-altering services. As the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, CIS is the only one proven to both decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates.
