George William Coble, of Wilmington, died April 15, 2015, at the Davis Community. He was 90.
George was born on Aug. 25, 1924, in Burlington to Minter Amick and Ethel Ardrey Coble.
George graduated from NC State University after service in WWII. Although he graduated with a mechanical engineering degree, George spent his entire career in hosiery, first in sales and then in manufacturing. He retired in 1992 as CEO/president of Textile Industries, Inc. and Ditto Legwear. George and his wife Nadia resided in Summit, New Jersey and High Point until their move to Wilmington upon retirement.
George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nadia Daughtridge Coble; children, Lee Worden (husband Richard), of High Point, John Coble (wife Mary), of Wilmington and Bill Coble (wife Kim), of Nakuru, Kenya; grandchildren, Lizzie Merritt (husband Dan), of Raleigh, Sarah Worden, of Brisbane, Australia, Rebecca Worden, of Raleigh, Jay Coble, of Washington and Kate Coble, of Winston-Salem; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Anna Merritt.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday April 17, 2015, at the home of John and Mary Coble. Private services will be held at a later date
