Cape Fear Community College students will showcase their handmade nautical crafts during the school’s annual boat show this weekend.
Set for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, the event, held on the banks of the Cape Fear River, aims to celebrate the craftsmanship while also raising scholarship funds for CFCC boat building students.
Students’ wooden and fiberglass boats, including kayaks and skiffs, will be on display, as will vessels from Simmons Sea Skiff Club. Professional boat builders and boat supply companies are encouraged to exhibit their products.
All non-commercially made boats may be considered for judging. Awards will be presented during a banquet on Saturday evening.
Interactive demonstrations from CFCC faculty will be held throughout the day on various topics and industry vendors will be on hand for product demonstrations. Kids will also get the chance to try their hand at boat building, thanks to kits provided by Home Depot.
Boats will be on display at the riverfront on Water Street, between Hilton Wilmington Riverside and Coastline Convention Center. Free parking is available in the CFCC parking deck on Nutt Street.
