Howard Ray Salyer, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at home. He was 69.
Howard was born Oct. 20, 1945, in Wilmington, son of the late Roy Salyer and Ava Grace Holt Salyer. His brother, Roy Salyer, preceded him in death.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who left an impact on so many lives with his honesty, compassion, sense of fairness, sense of humor, love of life, willingness to help others and ability to completely forgive, teaching these and many qualities to his entire family. He retired from Federal Paper in 2004 after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Salyer; two daughters, April Benson, of Harrells and Tabitha Moore (David), of Garland; a son, Jasper Benson Jr. (Jennifer), of Rose Hill; five grandchildren, Madison Clifton, Katelyn Moore, Cameron Moore, Joshua Benson and Bethany Benson; sister-in-law, Ann Salyer, of Sachse, Texas; two nieces, Michelle Pritchett, of McKinney, Texas and Yvonne Dean, of Gilmer, Texas; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and his beloved girls, Roxy and Sky.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at Anchor Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Nichols officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard’s memory may be made to Anchor Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 Futch Creek Road, Wilmington, NC 28411.
