The 25th-ranked Seahawks trail the College of Charleston by 1.5 games, with the Cougars having played one more series than UNCW.

Sitting at 25-8 on the season, this is the best record after 33 games since the 2008 Seahawks went 25-7-1 on their way to a 44-win season, a Colonial Athletic Association regular season title and an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament. UNCW owns the 10th best winning percentage in the nation at .758.

Earlier this season, the Seahawks topped East Carolina 4-2 behind a three-run home run off the bat of Chris Gaffney.

UNCW as relied on pitching over their last 15 games as the staff has combined for a 2.69 ERA and opponents are hitting a meager .216. Ryan Foster owns a 2.08 ERA to lead Seahawk starters, while Jared Gesell is 2-0 and not allowed a run during that span that also includes two saves.

Wihle the pitching has been solid, timely hitting has been lifting UNCW to a 13-2 mark over that 15-game span. The Seahawks have an 11-1 record when their opponent scores first. UNCW has outscored its opponents 31-4 in the eighth inning and is 8-2 when tied or trailing after six innings.

The Seahawks open a stretch that sees them play eight of the next nine games on the road beginning on Friday as the Seahawks open a three-game CAA series at Hofstra.
