Pete Koder died peacefully April 13, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 79.

Pete was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on Jan. 25, 1936, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Koder.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace; his daughter, Kathy; son, Michael; one aunt, Colleen Kover, of Macungie, Pennsylvania; and three cousins.

Pete was a 1954 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country with distinction in the U.S. Air Force having retired in 1974 with 20 years of service. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.

After retiring from the Air Force, Pete was employed with CP&L Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport for 23 years, retiring in 1998. Pete was a faithful and devoted member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church having served as Sunday school superintendent, sang in the church choir, served on the Men in Mission Ministry and served on the church Property Committees for 36 years.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 612 South College Road, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Zumwalt and Pastor Dale Kemppainen officiating.

Memorials may be given to the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Property Fund.

The family would like to thank the NHRMC ER staff, nurses on 6th floor, employees at Silver Stream Health and Rehab, New Hanover Medical Group at the 16th Street office and to the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
