William Moore, 82, sports enthusiast who loved Phillies baseball

imagesCAGE9BJ9William Moore, of Sunset Beach and formerly of Lynchburg, Virginia, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the age of 82.

Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on Nov. 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Joseph Henry Moore Sr. and Maggie Mae Cofflin Moore. He was preceded in death by twin sisters, Edith M. Megginson and Elva M. Faulkner and a brother, Thomas Samuel Moore.

Mr. Moore was a longtime member of West Lynchburg Baptist and was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast who loved Phillies baseball. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. His most precious time was spent with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret W. Moore; a daughter, Donna Moore Rasch and husband, Charlie, of Sunset Beach; a brother, Joseph H. Moore Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Lynchburg, Virginia; a sister, Nancy Carlson, of Chalfont, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Lauren Rasch and C. J. Rasch and wife, Brenda Ramirez; a great-granddaughter, Micah Rasch; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Chapel of Whittan Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Virginia. Inurnment will follow at the Fort Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are asked to be sent in his name to the West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501-3731; The Wounded Warriors Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or to the charity of your choice.
