Forrest David Johnson, of Wilmington, died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the age of 20.
Forrest was born May 26, 1994, in Wilmington, son of David Brent Johnson and Holly Kristin Potter. Both of his grandmothers, Helen Louise Johnson and Lynda Miller, preceded him in death.
Forrest was a graduate of Ashley High School and an outdoor enthusiast. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 215, Wilmington. Among his many outdoor adventures on the Eagle trail was the legendary South Mountain State Park weekend where he camped out with fellow scouts for three days in 10-degree temperatures; camping in the Florida Keys on an island for a week, living off the natural resources of the island and sea; and the week-long, 50-mile kayak and camping trip on Pamlico Sound.
Additionally he and his father had many adventures together as well. Among them were the whitewater rafting and camping trips on the Nantahala River, French Broad River and Nolichucky River and the world-class and always dangerous Chattooga River. He had an adventurous spirit and lived life to the fullest.
Forrest loved learning how to cook with his mom and showing her new ideas he came up with in the kitchen, but his favorite part was eating! He, his step-dad and little sister always loved to joke together, but his main concern with Lillie is that he wanted her to be safe, happy and respectful. Forrest was the best brother, son, grandson and friend that anyone could ever ask for.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his great-grandmother, Christine Potter; grandparents, Greg and Vicki Potter and R.H. Johnson Sr.; step-dad, Steve Gifford; sister, Lillie Gifford; uncles, Greg “Boogie” Potter, Rupert H. Johnson II and Stephen D. Johnson; best friend, Hunter Jenkins; stepbrother, Cody Gifford; and his beloved dog, Oreo.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Forrest’s memory may be made to Troop 215 Cape Fear Council, Boy Scouts of America, c/o St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
