Mary Jane Hennessee Horrell, of Wilmington, died peacefully Friday, April 10, 2015, at Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 79.

Mary Jane was born July 25, 1935, in Washington, daughter of the late Eugene Lionel Hennessee and Mary Jane Fielding Hennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Sidney Horrell; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Horrell; and her brother, Edward F. Hennessee.

Surviving are her two brothers, Eugene L. Hennessee (Dreama), of Enon, Ohio and David R. Hennessee (Reta), of Parkersburg, West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Edna Hennessee, of Lawton, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Julia Starn (James), of Wilmington; three children, Cathy Johnson (Steve), Caroline Griffin (Jeter) and Rex Horrell (Jane); four grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson Edegbai (Olu), Stephen Johnson, Nathan Johnson and Marissa Horrell; and two great-grandsons, Michael Johnson and David Edegbai.

Mrs. Horrell was a member of Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1953. Mary Jane graduated from the Berea College School of Nursing in Berea, Kentucky and became a registered nurse in 1957. She enjoyed working as a private duty nurse from 1977 to 1985 at New Hanover Regional Memorial Hospital, Cape Fear Memorial Hospital and in private homes. She loved teaching Sunday school for several years and was blessed to attend precept Bible studies for many years at her church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Glasgow officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery of St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church.
