John David Imel, of Burgaw, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 9, 2015, at his home. He was 51.

He was born March 21, 1964, in Hamilton County, Indiana, the son of the late David Joe and Emily June Hughes Imel.

John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandi Imel; sons, John Imel (spouse, Angil) and Jeff Imel; daughter, Ashley Imel; grandchildren, Emmaleigh Imel, Gavin Imel, Liberty Kaufman and Evan Kaufman; and three sisters.

Most important in John’s life was his beloved family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papaw.” He was a simple man who enjoyed Indycar racing, his Mustang car, all of God’s nature in the outdoors and his much-loved dachshund, Maggie. John’s sudden departure has left an empty place at our family table, in his recliner and in our hearts.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Cape Fear Community Fellowship (CF2). Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park.

Please leave online condolences f0r the family at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home.
