Ernest Lee ‘Pete’ Brownie, 70, 40-year heavy duty machine mechanic, retired

Ernest Lee “Pete” Brownie, 70, of Winnabow, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 70.

He was born in New Hanover County on Aug. 28, 1944, son of the late Charles Lee Brownie Sr. and Annie Vann Brownie. His wife, Betty McCelland Brownie, preceded him in death.

Mr. Brownie retired from Federal Paper Company in Riegelwood after 40 years of service where he was a heavy duty machine mechanic. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and racing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are seven children, Lisa Marie Brownie, Lee Brownie, Viola Jones, Jeff Taylor, Sadie Brownie Taylor, Loretta Brownie Cottrell, and Charles Ray “Cookie” Brownie; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Dr. Wilmington, NC.
