Ruth McGrane Brown died peacefully in her bed on April 7, 2015, at the age of 86.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on Aug. 8, 1928, and grew up in Rockville Center, New York. She retired to Wilmington with her devoted husband, Barry Brown, in 1988.

Ruth was the beacon of health and was quite active until the day she passed. She was a cherished volunteer of Friends of the Library and WHQR Public Radio Station and she relished working Saturdays at Repeat Boutique Fine Consignments. Ruth had a huge heart and enjoyed hosting many a gathering for friends and family.

She was the loving mother of James Fraser Brown, Nina Cecelia Brown, Kelly Ann Brown and Patricia King Brown and was the devoted grandmother of Joshua Alejandro Nieves, Nina Malia Brown and Kailani Daniel Brown. She was the beloved mother-in-law to Mary Vovers Brown and Jose Manuel Nieves. She will be dearly missed by one and all.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the Northeast Regional Library, 1241 Military Cutoff Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to New Hanover Friends of the Library, 201 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
