Kennard McDowell’s two-run double in the top of the eighth propelled UNCW to a 3-2 win over N.C. Central on Tuesday at the Durham Athletic Park.

The Seahawks improved to 22-8 overall and 3-4 on the road with the win. The Eagles, meanwhile, dropped to 15-17 with the home loss.

Reliever Austin Magestro (4-2) earned the win, while Jordan Ramsey recorded his seventh save of the season. Ramsey entered the game in the eighth, loaded the bases with an intentional walk, but closed out the inning with a ground ball double play.

UNCW plated three runs in the eighth inning as McDowell’s double with runners on the corners gave UNCW a 3-2 lead. Brian Mims hit a ground ball to second base one batter earlier that NCCU was unable to convert into a double play as a run scored to make it 2-1.

Seahawks starter Evan Phillips didn’t figure in the decision despite an impressive outing. The righthander went six-plus innings, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out a career-high 10.

Nick Feight was the only UNCW hitter with two hits in the game.
