Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating a fatal wreck reported Monday on Shipyard Boulevard.

Police responded to a wreck in the 4000 block of Shipyard Boulevard at 11:59 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

A red 2003 Chevrolet truck headed west on Shipyard made an abrupt left turn and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes, Lindsay said. The truck hit a utility pole, overturned and the driver was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver—German Hernandez Sosa, 39, of Wilmington—died at the scene, Lindsay said.

The utility pole broke in half and a building at 4014 Shipyard Blvd. was damaged. No other people were involved in the wreck.
