Charles “Charlie” E. Ruffin III, of Wilmington, died Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 69.

He was born Aug. 29, 1945, in Sanford, the son of Charles E. Ruffin Jr. and Betty Adcock McDavid Ruffin.

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He later furthered his studies and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Campbell University. For years he was employed in the construction lending and home mortgage business. He was a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church and active in the community.

He was a wonderful husband, loving father and faithful friend, brother and son. He had a strong faith in God, a wonderful smile and always had a twinkle in his eye.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Sue Ann Ruffin; sons, Edward “Ned” Gordon Ruffin and wife, Nancy and Charles Jason Ruffin and wife, Maggie; grandchildren, MacRae, Grayson and Miles; brothers, John “Rocky” Ruffin, Gail McDavid, Allen McDavid and Andy McDavid; sister, Phyllis McDavid Farren; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Temple Baptist Church, 1801 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28403 with the Rev. Steve Spangler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the services at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Liberty Commons for their wonderful care of Charlie.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington NC 28401; Temple Baptist Church; or the charity of one’s choice.
