New Hanover students score big at UNCW math contest

The county’s brightest young mathematicians recently faced off during a competition sponsored by UNC-Wilmington.

The 2015 High School Mathematics Contest featured an intensive 80-minute, 30-question exam covering a variety of concepts from algebra, plane geometry, trigonometry and analysis, as well as reasoning and general knowledge.

Participating schools were placed in either Division I or Division II, based on the size of their student populations.

Some individual team members also qualified for the state finals, to be held at the N.C. School of Science and Math in Durham later this month.
