A Rocky Point woman was arrested Friday on charges of assault and child abuse after she reportedly left her injured infant daughter at the hospital.
Cassie Anne Cliff, 31, reportedly left her 4-month-old daughter at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, according to Pender County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jamie Ezzell. After being examined by doctors, the infant was air-lifted to N.C. Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill, where she is in critical condition.
Sheriff’s deputies have been searching for Cliff since Wednesday. New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies arrested Cliff Friday afternoon in the Murrayville area, according to Pender County Capt. Jim Hock.
“The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office located her vehicle in the Murryville area and notified Pender County Sheriffs Office Detectives,” Hock said. “With cooperation between the two agencies, Cassie Cliff was taken into custody with no incident and is being processed.”
She has been charged with felony child abuse and assault relating to an abuse case, Ezzell said. She was in the processed of being booked into the Pender County jail on Friday afternoon.
