John Michael Grealish Sr., 79, loved winning at cards with his family is your source for free news and information in the Wilmington area.

John Michael Grealish, son of the late Anna and Peter Grealish, a resident of Hampstead and formerly of South Boston and Hull, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. He was 79.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Annette Grealish (Duran). He was the father of Kathleen Lorina and her husband, Joseph, of Hull, Massachusetts, Annemarie Ferguson and husband, David, of Hampstead, Maureen Murakami, of Overland Park, Kansas, Annette Donahue, of Wilmington, Michelle Cobbett and her husband, Ray, of Hampstead, John Grealish, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, Charles Wilder, of Whitman, Massachusetts and Donald English and wife, Carol, of San Bernadino, California. He was the beloved grandfather of 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Godwin and husband, Bill, of Topsail Beach, Patricia Johnson, of Boston and Joan Chavez and husband Amarante, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Grealish and his sisters, Kathleen Duggan and Anna O’Brien, of South Boston.

John loved playing golf, spending time at the beach, winning at cards with the family and taking long walks with his wife. A veteran of the U.S. Army, John served his country proudly in Korea. He retired from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in 1990 after 25 years of service. John was a friend of Bill W. for 43 years to the day.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead. Reception will follow at Surf City Welcome Center.
