James Allyn Smith, 86, 9-year Hampstead Senior Center volunteer

James Allyn Smith, of Hampstead, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 86.

He was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Cleveland, the son of the late James O. Smith and Eleanor Brunner Smith.

James worked for General Electric in Cleveland and retired after a 38-year career. He was a member of Ogden Baptist Church and volunteered at the Hampstead Senior Center for nine years. He enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid golfer.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn DeBolt Smith; son, Brian Smith and wife, Cindy, of Allen Texas; daughters, Debbie Smith, of Huntsville, Texas and Sally Chepla and husband, William, of Wilmington; sister, Jane Cornish, of Wellington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was strong in his faith and loved dearly by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at Ogden Baptist Church, 7121 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28411.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
