Donnavee Knight Hicks, of Wilmington, died Monday, March 30, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was 78.

She was born April 10, 1936, in Greensboro, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Paul Knight and Irene Knight. Donnavee was the last of five children born to Paul and Irene and at an early age met and married the love of her life, Issac Hicks.

Donnavee was also the first Miss Pleasure Island pageant winner ever and was known to dazzle anyone she met with her larger than life personality. She will be deeply missed by all.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 61 years, Issac Hicks Jr., of the home; sons, Issac “Ike” Hicks III (Melanie) and Mike Hicks (Sandy); daughters, Tammy Doby (Dean) and Charlie Hicks (Tony); 11 grandchildren, Haley, Whitney, Hanna, Jessica, Chrissy, Marty, Heather, Skye, Lindsay, Jordan and Ike; 13 great-grandchildren; family friend, Brandon; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
