UNCW’s bullpen held N.C. State in check over the final 7.1 innings, but the damage was done in the bottom of the first as the Wolfpack scored seven runs in the opening inning on its way to a 10-2 win over the Seahawks on Wednesday at Doak Field.

The Wolfpack improved to 22-18 with the win and finished off a season sweep of the home-and-home series with the Seahawks. UNCW dropped back to .500 at 20-20 with the loss.

Ricky Holden allowed one run over 3.1 innings out of the bullpen.

The Wolfpack plated seven runs on five hits and a pair of walks against UNCW starter Evan Phillips.

All-American Carlos Rodon had two hits for N.C. State, while former Ashley High School standout Chance Shepard went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI as the sophomore drove in a run with a two-out hit up the middle in the fourth.

North Brunswick High School alumn Steven Linkous continued to take advantage of his opportunity in the lineup with a hit, RBI and run scored for the Seahawks.

UNCW returns to conference play with a key series at Delaware this weekend. The series opens on Friday with a 3 p.m. start at Bob Hannah Stadium.
