The university announced today that, on initial counts, it had received $118,000 in its first-ever 24-hour pledge drive, well above the goal of $24,000.
The impetus behind the Give 24 in 24 Challenge was to raise that amount from alumni, parents of students, community members and area businesses in order to receive an additional $24,000 gift from an anonymous donor to benefit the student scholarship fund.
The campaign was launched virtually at 8 a.m. Tuesday and closed at 8 a.m. today. UNCW reached its $24,000 goal within just 12 hours of the 24-hour period.
“The success of this campaign is a true testament to the passion our supporters feel for UNCW and the commitment they’ve made to our students’ success,” Chancellor Gary Miller said. “The generosity we’ve seen over the past 24 hours is certainly inspiring when we consider the impact it will have for the over 70 percent of our students who receive some type of financial assistance.”
The university is continuing to tally gifts. Final numbers will be released when available.
