A pair of school records by Emily Mauro and Dylan Skinner in the 600 meters highlighted an impressive opening day for UNCW at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday at Rector Fieldhouse.
In the 600 meters, Mauro finished sixth, but her time of 1:34.84 set a school record, besting the previous time of 1:35.90, set by Lauren Donaldson in 2010 at the same meet.
Skinner posted UNCW’s top finish on the afternoon with a second-place showing in the 600 meters. His time of 1:18.60 topped Will Zahorodny’s record-time of 1:19.64, set in 2011 at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Junior Cameron Shaw added a third-place time in the men’s 60 meters with a time of 6.93 seconds which also ranks fifth all-time in UNCW’s indoor record book. He advanced to the finals of the event after running 6.94 in the preliminaries.
The meet concludes on Saturday beginning with the women’s high jump at 11 a.m.
