A West Brunswick High School custodian was arrested Monday night and charged with multiple sex offenses.

Valentine Rivera, 42, of 4925 D.E. Robinson Trail, Shallotte, was arrested Monday night and charged with sexual battery, sexual activity with a student by school personnel and disseminating pornographic materials, according to arrest warrants.

The victim is an 18-year-old female student.

According to warrants, Rivera brought nude photos of himself to campus from Feb. 3 through Feb. 14.

Rivera was immediately placed on administrative leave and will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We are confident in our judicial system’s ability to resolve this serious matter,” Swencki noted.

Rivera is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

Rivera was hired in 2010 as a substitute custodian with Brunswick County Schools and became a full-time custodian in January 2013. He earned an annual salary of $22,548.

“The alleged behaviors are not tolerated at West Brunswick High School or any school in Brunswick County,” district spokeswoman Jessica Swencki said.

According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Rivera doesn’t have any prior criminal convictions. He is not listed on the National Sex Offender Registry.
