Winter weather may have hit our region this week, but the show must go on.

The New Hanover County Schools All-County Elementary School Choral Festival is still scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Minnie Evans Art Center, 555 Halyburton Memorial Parkway.

Rehearsals will take place on Feb. 21-22 as originally scheduled. Transportation will be provided on Friday, but parents must transport students to the Minnie Evans Art Center on Saturday as planned. Since the make-up day is a half day on Feb. 22, parking for the concert should not be a problem.

Regional science fair winners announced

New Hanover County students of all ages took home trophies during the 2014 Regional Science Fair on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Twelve projects were selected to compete at this year’s N.C. Science and Engineering Fair, held March 28-29 in Raleigh.

Alderman Elementary to celebrate 50 years

Alderman Elementary School celebrates its golden anniversary with a 50th birthday party 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18. The event includes special guests, entertainment and cake. Current Alderman students will sing songs from the 60’s, and there will be a slide show showcasing alumni, such as former professional baseball player Trot Nixon. All former students, faculty members, teachers and families who were part of Alderman’s history are invited to attend, as well as the community. District leaders to host legislative breakfast

New Hanover County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley will host the 2014 legislative breakfast for state and local legislators, including the New Hanover County Board of Education, on Feb. 18. District administrators, teachers and senior leadership will also attend. According to a press release from the district, the breakfast will serve as a forum to discuss legislative items of concern to the district, such as school improvements, safety and technology.
