Closings and cancellations: Brunswick offices, BCC to open at 10 a.m. Thursday; UNCW, CFCC to open at 11

New Hanover County

New Hanover County government offices, libraries and Cape Fear Museum will operate on a normal schedule Thursday, Feb. 13. Airlie Gardens and all county parks will remain closed to allow staff to complete damage assessments.

New Hanover County courts will be closed on Thursday. Pender County courts will operate on a normal schedule.

City of Wilmington offices will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a bulletin. “If staff find that facilities still do not have power, that determination may change,” the city said Wednesday night. “The city annex at 305 Chestnut Street does not currently have power and staff do not know when it will be restored at that location.”

New Hanover County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday. A make-up date for students and staff has been set for Saturday, Feb. 22. All after-school activities and athletic events–games and practices–have been cancelled.

The New Hanover County Board of Education policy committee and regular board meetings originally scheduled Tuesday have been postponed. The policy committee meeting has been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15,  at the Board of Education Center, located at 1805 S. 13th St. The regular board meeting will follow at noon.

Cape Fear Community College’s campuses will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the exception of Burgaw, which remains closed due to a power outage.

UNCW will resume classes at 11 a.m. Thursday. All campus services will remain closed until that time, and Wave Transit will begin offering service at 10 a.m. Classes at the university’s extension sites in Duplin, Sampson, Lee, Onslow, Carteret and Brunswick counties will open at noon. Power has been restored to campus and the university is making efforts to ensure sidewalks and roadways are cleared by 11 a.m.

The Cameron Art Museum, the museum school and CAM Cafe are closed Wednesday.

Elderhaus will be closed Thursday, both locations.

The Wilmington Family YMCA will be open at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Battleship North Carolina is closed Wednesday.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offices closed Wednesday after opening at 10 a.m.

Cape Fear Literacy Council will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Brunswick County 

Brunswick County government offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Brunswick County Public Schools will remain closed Thursday. ​Brunswick Community College will open for faculty and staff at 10 a.m. Thursday, but remain closed for students. BCC personnel are encouraged to use good judgement regarding driving conditions before driving to work.

Waste Industries did not pick up Wednesday routes, but is planning to pick up routes on Thursday. Wednesday’s routes will be made up on Saturday, for residents in unincorporated/rural areas, and Thursday for residents in Shallotte, Caswell Beach and Sunset Beach.

Brunswick Transit System and Brunswick Senior Resources Inc. will be closed again on Thursday due to weather and road conditions. While BSRI distributed additional shelf-stable meals in preparation for the storm, extra food items are available to seniors who need food assistance. Deliveries can be arranged by calling  Belinda Stroops at (910) 200-7266.

Town of Leland offices will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, except for essential personnel. A planning board meeting scheduled Wednesday evening was cancelled.

Pender County

Pender County courts will open at 10 a.m.

James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville will be closed Wednesday. Classes and activities will resume Thursday at noon.
