Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced Tuesday that former UNCW Seahawk Christian Davidson will be returning to the club for his third consecutive season.
Davidson first debuted with the Hammerheads during the 2012 USL PRO regular season, which led to an eventual appearance in the USL PRO championship match.
“I am thrilled to have re-signed with the Hammerheads,” said Davidson. “I love representing the club and the City of Wilmington. The Hammerheads are a great organization with fantastic fans and with the new Toronto FC affiliation, the club continues to head in the right direction. We have a strong core group of guys returning and I am excited to see who else joins us.”
Davidson was a vital part of the Seahawk backline during his time on campus (2008-2011). He helped set records defensively, won a pair of CAA regular season titles, one conference championship and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament. All were firsts in the history of the program.
The veteran defender is a 2011 UNCW graduate and spent time training with Sunderland in September 2013. He also coaches local youth soccer programs with Cape Fear Soccer Club in Wilmington.
“It is great to have Christian back alongside some of our other returning players,” said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Head Coach David Irving. “He has been a consistent player and product of UNCW. We are happy to have him remain in Wilmington where people have been able to watch him compete on different levels.”
