A Wilmington man–who police say is a validated gang member–has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of an 86-year-old man.
Rodney Seager Bradley, 21, has been charged with the second-degree murder of Floyd Henry, who died from injuries sustained in an assault that occurred Nov. 11 in the Houston Moore housing community, according to police spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
Detective Lee Odham, an investigator with the Wilmington Police Department, said Henry took his grandson and another person to Houston Moore around 4 a.m. on Veterans Day. While there, his grandson got into some type of altercation and went back to his grandfather’s vehicle, Odham said.
Bradley went to Henry’s vehicle and allegedly assaulted Henry and hit him in the head, according to Odham.
“The 86-year-old victim developed a subdural hematoma, which later sent him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by ambulance the following day,” Odham said. “He [died] exactly two weeks to the day from the incident from the subdural hematoma–from being struck on the head.”
Bradley is facing several prior charges in New Hanover County, including four counts of second-degree trespassing, two counts of driving while license revoked, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, selling and delivering heroin, possessing drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and a window tint violation.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Bradley was previously convicted of six misdemeanors and felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance. Bradley is currently serving time in the Forsyth County Detention Center.
