UNCW freshman guard Brie Mobley has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week.
A native of Winter Haven, Fla., Mobley shot 62.9 percent (22-of-35) from the floor and averaged 22 points per game as the Seahawks opened league play last week with home games against Northeastern and Hofstra.
“I’m happy that Brie was recognized by the league for a pair of great individual performances,” said UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris. “To open up conference play with carrer highs in back-to-back contests is a very impressive feat. I’m pleased for her and hope she continues to play with the type of confidence she displayed last week.”
Mobley began the week with 20 points on a 10-of-20 effort from the floor against Northeastern on Jan. 9, before establishing a new season high with 24 points on 12-of-15 shooting against Hofstra Sunday. Mobley’s 24 points against the Pride were the most points scored by a UNCW freshman since Brittany Blackwell poured in 25 against Georgia State on Feb. 10, 2008.
The Seahawks return to action Friday as they travel to two-time defending champion Delaware for a 7 p.m. contest.
