Thomas Charles Prendergast, III, a graduate of Niagara University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a graduate of Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Science degree in business, died peacefully on Dec. 9, 2013, at home.

Mr. Prendergast retired earlier this year from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he was a carpenter in the Office of Facilities. Prior to his time at UNCW, he worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Lockport, N.Y. until he retired in 2003. Mr. Prendergast took immense joy in his family, his work and all that he did. He was a most beloved husband, father and grandfather who lived his life as an example for others to follow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jean (Kenyon) Prendergast and is survived by his wife, Lisa; children, Christopher (Christy), Patrick and Michelle (John Sweeney); and grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the chapel.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mr. Prendergast’s memory to the General Scholarship Fund at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington c/o Advancement Services, UNCW, 601 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403-5905.
